Sioux Falls, S. D. – To promote the art and science of medicine, protect and improve the health of the public through leadership and advocacy for health care reform, more than a hundred physicians, medical experts, and researchers convened at the 2-day South Dakota State Medical Association (SDSMA) 2013 Annual Meeting last May 31 to June 1. South Dakota Vein Specialist, Dr. Lornell E. Hansen II, MD was one of the experts who participated in the conference held at the Best Western Ramkota Hotel.

The South Dakota State Medical Association 2013 Annual Meeting

Physicians from across the state gathered in Sioux Falls for their annual conference and were able to listen to colleagues talk about the latest research and findings in their fields. Highlights of the conference included a talk organized by the AMA (American Medical Association) advocacy staff, recent medical research successes in South Dakota proven to have worldwide impact, and a refresher on the topic of health information and privacy (HIPAA).

“Each year we seek to become the physician’s  first choice for information,” said Robert L. Allison, MD, FACP, SDSMA’s current president.  We understand the challenges each physician faces in CME requirements and the limitations on free time and seek to provide that niche of specialty lectures and unprecedented access to national AMA leadership (Robert Wah, MD, AMA immediate past chair, Board of  Trustees) that no other specialty society can provide.”

The organization’s board members had their annual meeting and there was a South Dakota State Medical Association Medical Student Scholarship Fundraiser as well during the conference. A non-medical talk was also conducted to educate physician members on how to effectively manage their finances.
